Parenting is always such a complicated, high stakes task. No decision is clear, everything has its pro’s and con’s. You want to get it right, but you’re not always sure what “right” looks like. There are a lot of factors to consider. And now, with Covid-19 affecting everything it’s all so much more confusing.
Plus, everyone has their own story to tell.
Imagine if you had a place to go to think these issues through, to feel clearer about how you want to handle your kids, and to feel like you can clearly articulate your thinking to others. Open to parents of children birth to 25, this group will give you a chance to meet with other parents as you bounce your ideas off of all of us. Learn what is typical behavior, and what might be a source of concern. Exchange ideas for how to handle challenging issues. Get support for the times that you just know weren’t your best parenting moments—we’ve all had them. And, get advice from a seasoned child psychologist who understands child and adolescent development, knows how to help kids, has raised kids of her own who turned out OK, and has specialized in parent coaching for more than 25 years.
This group is led by Dr. Beth King, who is the founder and Executive Director of TREAT NYC Therapy Services. She is a licensed psychologist who loves standing with other parents on their parenting journey, helping them to manage their anxiety and clarify their thinking as they make the myriad complicated decisions that go into any day as a parent. She is also the proud mother of two adult daughters who have followed very different paths in their life but have navigated the challenges of growing up with reasonable success and aplomb.

- My kid has learning problems, and I don’t always know when to hold the line and when to back down.
- My teen is driving me crazy. He’s super smart and super social. I have a feeling his mask is not always on his face when he’s hanging out with his friends.
- We’ve had a lot of trauma and struggles in our family. I’m not sure how to support my kids without becoming their therapist.
- My kid just doesn’t seem quite like the other kids. I’m not sure if I should be worried or not.
- My kid is getting really sassy. It bothers me, and it drives my parents crazy. I don’t know how strictly I should enforce polite behavior. The rules are all so different in this country.
- I want to respect my kid’s autonomy and individuality, but I don’t want to sacrifice my parental authority. Finding the right balance is so confusing sometimes.
